The concept of “remixing” is often associated with the music industry. In the past there have been “one-hit wonders” and washed up musicians that have tried to milk a few more dollars out of their now-faded stardom by remixing their hits of yesteryear. Modern day musicians such as P. Diddy, Kanye West, and many others have taken remixing to another level, using loops from popular music of the past as the canvas for which they paint a new musical masterpiece.
At its best, remixing is a matter of giving an older artistic expression new life; to “revoice” it, allowing an original work to be understood all over again in a contemporary context.
